    Preventive Dentistry Procedures

We know that life can get busy, and no one wants to waste time dealing with toothache or dental pain. Often, however, people make the mistake of waiting until pain or dental problems arise or worsen before addressing the issue, costing more time and money in the end. Preventive dentistry helps you maintain good oral health and proactively guard against dental problems. In addition to deep dental cleanings and checkups, New Image Dentistry & Implants offers a variety of preventive dental services including:

    • Perio Therapy
    • Root Canal Therapy
    • Fillings
    • NTI
    • Nightguard

    Perio Therapy:

Gum disease affects 4 in 5 adults at some point in their lives. Though it is a common problem, gum disease can cause significant dental and oral health problems if left untreated. Thankfully, there are a number of safe, effective options for treating and eliminating gum disease.

Gingivitis is the earliest and mildest form of the disease. A simple, but thorough dental cleaning is typically enough to eliminate the problem. Advanced gum disease (periodontal disease), however, requires more extensive treatment. Scaling and root planing is one such treatment that removes bacteria from below the gum line and smooths out the tooth’s rougher surfaces to prevent new bacterial growth. Another alternative treatment is laser gum surgery which removes tartar and plaque buildup with beams of high-speed light.

There are many non-surgical options for treating gum disease, but should they prove ineffective, a gingivectomy (periodontal surgery) may be used to treat the condition.

    Root Canal Therapy:

Root canals may conjure up images of squirming patients in dental chairs, but root canals are in fact very simple, safe, and often pain-free. Root canals remove decayed or damaged pulp from the inner cavity of one’s tooth in order to remove infection and restore the tooth’s health. Symptoms of infection include toothache, swelling, or dental abscess. Laser root canals make the process faster, more comfortable, and often more effective than traditional root canal treatments. Another alternative to root canal treatment is called pulp capping. Pulp capping can keep a dental filling from coming into contact with the nerve of the tooth.

    Fillings:

Fillings are used to fill cavities left in a tooth as a result of decay. Fillings are one of the most common, simple, and successful treatments in preventive dentistry. Dental fillings come in several different materials including silver amalgam, composite, porcelain and gold.

Amalgam fillings have a successful track record dating back more than 100 years and remain the most cost-effective, commonly used dental fillings. Composite fillings, however, can be matched to the color of your natural teeth using a tooth-colored plastic and glass composite. Composite fillings are many patients’ preference due to their natural-looking appearance and durability. Your dentist will work with you to determine which type of filling is best for you based on a number of unique factors including the size and scope of the cavity.

    NTI:

If you suffer from migraines, the problem might be with your jaw. Teeth clenching and bruxism can result in painful headaches or migraines. To prevent teeth clenching and bruxism, a mouthguard known as an NTI appliance may be used. The NTI appliance uses a tension suppression system to prevent clenching and protect teeth from additional wear.

    Nightguard:

Common dental problems such as TMD, snoring, and sleep apnea may be treated by simply wearing a mouthguard to bed. At New Image Dentistry, we carefully and uniquely craft your nightguard to fit your alignment and bite. Nightguards are simple to care for, but may require routine maintenance and adjustments. If you experience discomfort, call our office.

If you are in need of a routine checkup or are feeling symptoms of a bacterial infection or gum disease, contact our office to schedule an appointment with us.
